The lock screen is the first thing you see when you wake up your iPhone. Not only do you want it to look great, but you also want to make sure that all relevant information is accessible without unlocking the device.

Plus, there are multiple screen lock options that you can try out and pick your favorite if Face ID doesn't do it for you.

Here you will see how to do all these things. Without further ado, let's take a look at how to customize your iPhone's lock screen.

Change screen lock options

Face ID is by far one of the most useful features of the iPhone XS Max. If you haven't tried it before, here's how to set it up:

  1. Go to Settings from the home screen.

  2. Navigate to Face ID & Passcode .

  3. Enter your access code.

  4. Go to Set up Face ID .

  1. Tap Get started .

  2. Place your face inside the circle.

  3. Move your head slowly in a circle.

  4. Tap Continue .

  5. Move your head again in a second circle.

  6. Tap Done .

If you want to remove Face ID, you can do it from the same menu Face ID & Passcode . Just turn off the switches next to the options you don't want to use it for and it will turn off. In the same menu, you'll see the Allow access when locked section , from which you can choose the items you want to see on your lock screen.

If you just want to use/change your passcode, you can set that too. Just go to Change Password in the Face ID & Passcode menu and type a new one. In Passcode options, you can choose between an alphanumeric, custom numeric, and a four-digit numeric password.

Change the lock screen wallpaper

Every new iPhone comes with some amazing wallpapers. The iPhone XS Max is definitely no exception and the wallpapers really come to life on this phone's beautiful Super Retina display. Still, you may not want to stick with the default wallpaper. If so, you can change it as follows:

  1. Open Settings from the home screen.

  2. Tap Wallpaper > Choose a new wallpaper .

  1. Go to the folder where your desired wallpaper is.

  2. Tap the image you want to set as your new wallpaper.

  3. Tap Set .

  4. Choose Set lock screen .

In the Background section, you'll see a refreshed collection of Still, Dynamic, and Live photos. Of course, you can choose any of the images you have taken or downloaded.

The last word

Customizing your lock screen is an easy process when you know where to look. Now that you do, go ahead and try some of the features and options you read about. With so many free wallpapers available on the web and countless apps to add to your lock screen, you'll have no problem making your iPhone your own.
